2019 Event Sunday July 21st
Krav Maga Family Fun Day in Milton in aid of Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.
The day did not start too well, the bouncing castle arrived but immediately departed again, the person booked to supply it stating ‘I do not do pubs’. One would have thought that the address on the booking, The Swan Inn, would have been enough of a clue.
The Dalek was the next casualty refusing to work despite the owner spending a couple of hours trying to fix it. Perhaps we have the answer to why the Daleks did not take over the world – they blew a fuse!
Despite the set backs a determined team of volunteers were hard at work erecting gazebos, setting up stalls and preparing to receive the first visitors at 11 am.
The sun shone, visitors arrived to enjoy burgers and bangers from the BBQ, with cakes and strawberries and cream for dessert.
Other attractions included a raffle, plant stall, tombola, adopt a teddy, large remote control aeroplanes, computer flight simulator and the ever popular wine and water game.
In the afternoon local Morris Men performed in the Beer Garden followed by an impressive display of Krav Maga self defence by both children and adults.
The generosity of the visitors was amazing, many donating the last of their small change into the collection buckets as they left.
Proceeds from the Fun Day and other generous donations resulted in the staggering sum of £14,144.46 being raised, which will provide a holiday for a week at the centre for more than 36 under-privileged children.
A cheque was presented on Monday 12th August to Bill Tomlinson, the Chairman of the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.
Thank you to all who helped on the day and to the many visitors who came to support.

Sunday July 16th
Free Charity BBQ in Milton in aid of Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre
A superb friendly family event, the sun shone, the burgers sizzled and the children played.
Apples were bobbed, coconuts toppled, and mini boats raced whilst the adults could either test their strength or simply enjoy a drink and chat to friends in the outdoors. Around 500 people visited during the day including the Mayor and Mayoress of both Burton and Derby City. The Mayor of Derby City has selected Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre to be one of his chosen charities for this year.Three days after the event the total money raised for this worthy cause was £7,601 but the total is still rising as additional donations come in. A magnificent effort and a huge thank you to the volunteers on the day without whom the event would not have been possible. Thanks also to everyone who helped or supported and to Duncan who organised the event and was still smiling even after 12 hours cooking on the BBQ, a true gentleman.
Free BBQ and Fun Day – Sunday July 10th 2016
Over 300 people came along to enjoy an afternoon and evening of BBQ, music and games.
Duncan Hogg, a local Milton resident, and his team of dedicated helpers, organised a superb family event in aid of Derbyshire Childrens’ Holiday Centre, held at The Swan in Milton. Everything was free – funds were raised by individual donations, and donations for the BBQ food, games and raffle.
For the children there was a bouncy castle, coconut shy, and Ted’s Treasure Hunt. For the adults a test of strength game and model boat racing. With music playing in the background the atmosphere was akin to a lively country garden party.
The lady Mayor of Derby, Councillor Linda Winter, visited to show support for the cause and performed the official opening of the Treasure Hunt.
An amazing £7,005 was raised for the Derbyshire Childrens’ Holiday Centre, thank you to all who helped and supported.
