Milton Village Hall Refurbishment June 2026
Since receiving a part funded grant from the South Derbyshire Community Fund, a program funded by the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Milton Village Hall has undergone a significant transformation.
The funding enabled the committee to make several important improvements to the building as part of the committee’s initiative, Project Warm Welcome. These improvements included the installation of new windows, the sealing and varnishing of the wooden floor, and the addition of modern infrared heating
Now combined with wifi capability these upgrades have enhanced both the comfort and energy efficiency of the hall, creating a more welcoming space for residents and visitors alike.
Since the completion of the funded works and led by Mandy Avery, plus four more committee members, Charlotte Gormley, Sue White, Liz Wibberley and
Helen Shepherd volunteered their time, enthusiasm and practical know-how to decorate the hall. Using sanders, power tools and other equipment they have given the hall and stage a bright fresh look. Paul Rose, a Milton resident also kindly volunteered his time to support the decorating team
Planning approval gained in 2025 also supports future projects to enhance accessibility and increase storage capacity.
These developments have only been possible thanks to the continued support of the local residents. Alongside grant funding, the committee’s fundraising efforts and the generosity of residents and supporters have made a significant contribution towards the improvements already completed and those planned for the future.
Further updates will follow as work continues to improve and enhance the village hall.
2025
Milton Village Hall Committee are delighted to share that planning approval has been granted for a major refurbishment and extension of our Village Hall. These much-needed improvements will ensure the hall remains a welcoming, accessible and well-equipped space for years to come.
The approved plans include:
- Improved disabled access, making the hall more inclusive
- New Storage Extensions, to better support community groups and activities
- Replacement windows, improving energy efficiency
- Internal reconfiguration, to maximise usable space for events, classes and gatherings
These developments follow a consultation period, which included an open day to view plans, as well as invaluable support we have received from Repton Parish Council and Kerry Haines, local councillor. We would also like to thank Sue Goodwin for taking the committee lead on the planning process and Matthew Montague Architects for their work in preparing and submitting the drawings and planning application.
We’re grateful to everyone who contributed their time and feedback to help shape the vision for the Village Hall’s future.
Alongside the long-term plans, essential repairs will be carried out ahead of winter to help protect the fabric of the building while work progresses.
To help fund these exciting developments we are launching a fund-raising campaign. Details of events, initiatives and ways to contribute will be shared soon.
